12/03/2010 - Renault F1 Team works with At The Summit

Renault F1 Team is working with At The Summit to deliver a unique racing driver fitness programme, created by the team’s Human Performance Centre.

Held at the Renault F1 Team headquarters in Enstone, Oxfordshire, the programme is aimed at young wannabe F1 drivers and is the only one of its kind. The Driver Fitness Programme gives young, aspiring drivers the chance to develop their physical and psychological conditioning.

At The Summit coach Simon North launched the programme to a host of top young racing drivers and the media at the Renault F1 Team’s HQ along with a presentation from Renault F1 Team Head Coach Daryl Coombes who currently helps train Renault F1 drivers Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov.

Simon commented: “To reach the top in motorsport takes more than just ability on the track. Drivers have to become highly tuned athletes, conditioning not only their bodies but also their minds. Having worked with F1 stars including Formula One World Champions Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Räikkönen I have seen how closely fitness is linked to performance.”

Speaking about the new Driver Fitness Programme Head Coach Daryl Coombes added: “The challenge facing young drivers aiming to reach top-level motorsport is tougher than ever. We therefore feel it is our responsibility to support them as much as possible by developing their skills both on and off the racetrack. It’s about helping them mature as individuals and racing drivers with the ultimate goal of getting them ready to make the step up to Formula One in the future.”

At The Summit will be working with the drivers throughout the season and taking them out training on their bikes in between races.
